Lest We Forget

Remembrance Day

Remembrance Sunday and the Poppy Appeal have always been important to the staff at Apex. We caught up with two members of our Engineering team as previous service men to learn about how they Will Remember Them and to hear about their journey since exiting the Army and joining Apex.

Meet Craig Jinks – Engineering Manager

Sergeant Craig Jinks left the Royal Corps of Signals after 31 years and joined Apex Radio in 2023 as our Engineering Manager based out of our Teesside depot. During his service, he was deployed on operational tours to Northern Ireland, Bosnia, Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as many exercises to Canada, and Kenya. During Craig’s long tenure, Craig reached the rank of Sergeant and was a Queens Royal Hussars Commanding Officers Signaller, providing communications in Iraq. He was also awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, a medal only awarded to a handful of recipients every year. An incredible testament to the hard work and dedication.

Why is Remembrance Day important to you?

“Remembrance day for me is a day of reflection. A day to catch up with comrades and veterans alike. But more so to remember family, friends, colleagues, and all service people who paid the ultimate sacrifice. My dad served in the 17th/21st Lancers along with other family members.”

Meet Jamie Mooney – Radio Systems Engineer

After 9 years of serving in the Royal Tank Regiment, two operational tours of Afghanistan, and numerous training exercises in Canada and Germany, Lance Corporal Jamie Mooney stepped away from service.

“From navigating radio operations alongside the crew commander to servicing the 72Tonne Challenger 2 Tank, my days at Apex are very different.” Jamie says, “Many soldiers can feel a lot of doubt and anxiety when leaving the armed forces and might think their skill sets don’t match what the employer wants. I have never felt that at Apex. I was helped to feel empowered and steadied my nerves upon applying.”

Why is Remembrance Day important to you?

“It symbolises our great nation and shows our appreciation to the many who sacrificed their lives for ours. Seeing people wear poppies leading up to Remembrance Day makes me extremely proud of my country. My family has a long line of servicemen, so this day means so much to me.”

Apex Supports

The transition period from leaving the Services to the Civilian Sector can be incredibly daunting. Apex understands and puts our employees first. “The help and support I have received [from Apex] is concrete proof that there are companies who care for their employees. I feel so valued.” Craig Jinks. “I have always been supported” Jamie says, “Apex has a solid foundation throughout”.
