Apprenticeship Success for Apex Radio Systems

At Apex Radio Systems, we are proud to celebrate the achievements of our team members, especially when it comes to professional development and career growth. Today, we would like to congratulate our Customer Service Apprentices, Harry Hastings-Petrie and Ethan Ladd, for successfully completing their apprenticeship with distinctions. 

Completing an apprenticeship is a significant milestone, requiring dedication, time management and determination. Harry and Ethan have demonstrated all of these qualities throughout their journey, and we’re incredibly proud of what they have achieved. 

To celebrate their successes, we asked them a few questions about their apprenticeship journey, the skills they developed, and their plans for the future at Apex. 

What made you want to complete an apprenticeship?

For both Harry and Ethan, an apprenticeship offered the perfect opportunity to develop career skills while learning and earning at the same time.

Harry explained that university was never something he strongly considered. Instead, he wanted to gain practical experience straight away, develop valuable workplace skills while learning and earning at the same time.

Ethan’s path was slightly different. After initially trying university, he realised that the academic route wasn’t the right fit for him. An apprenticeship provided the ideal alternative, allowing him to build practical experience, develop his professional skills and begin progressing within his career.

How did you find your apprenticeship journey?

Both apprentices described their journey as a positive and rewarding experience. Like any learning process, it came with challenges, but these obstacles ultimately helped them grow both personally and professionally. 

Harry and Ethan explained that overcoming these challenges helped them learn more about themselves, develop resilience, and gain a deeper understanding of their roles within the business. 

What key skills did you learn?

Completing an apprenticeship provides a wide range of valuable skills that can benefit both professional and personal development. 

During their apprenticeship at Apex, Harry and Ethan developed several key skills, including communication, time management, teamwork and problem solving. 

They both noted that their apprenticeship helped them gain the confidence to succeed in their roles, interact with customers professionally, and develop a strong understanding of the products and services Apex provides.

Additionally, the experience helped them gain insight into how the wider business operates and the industry Apex works within, providing valuable context for their day-to-day responsibilities. 

How has Apex supported you throughout your apprenticeship?

Both Harry and Ethan highlighted Apex’s role in helping them succeed.

They described Apex as a major source of support throughout their apprenticeship, ensuring they had dedicated time to complete their coursework and meet learning requirements. 

Alongside this, the business supported their personal and professional development, helping them overcome challenges and continuously improve their roles. 

Regular one-to-one meetings and catch-ups with management provided valuable opportunities to receive feedback, reflect on progress and identify areas for development. This feedback helped them learn from mistakes, build confidence and continue improving their performance. 

Are there any particular moments that stand out to you during your apprenticeship?

For Ethan, the moment that stood out the most was submitting his final portfolio. After months of hard work, dedication and commitment, handing in his completed portfolio brought an incredible sense of relief and achievement.

Harry reflected on a different type of milestone – the moment he realised that tasks he once struggled with had become second nature. This moment highlighted just how much his skills and confidence had developed throughout the apprenticeship.

What achievement are you most proud of?

When asked what achievement they were most proud of, both Harry and Ethan shared the same answer: sticking with their apprenticeship and achieving a distinction.

Balancing work responsibilities with studying can be challenging, and there were times when the workload felt demanding. However, their determination and commitment paid off, and achieving a distinction made all the hard work worthwhile. 

How did it feel when you found out you had passed with a distinction?

Finding out they had passed their apprenticeships with distinction brought a shared feeling of relief, pride and excitement.

For both Harry and Ethan, the result validated the time and effort they had invested in their development. Achieving such a high grade also gave them the confidence to continue progressing in their careers and take on new opportunities within the business. 

What are your plans for the future?

Now that they have successfully completed their apprenticeships, both Harry and Ethan are excited to continue developing their careers at Apex. Their career paths are already evolving within the business.

Harry has developed a strong interest in the engineering side of the company. During his apprenticeship, he worked alongside the engineering team and quickly realised this was an area he would like to pursue further.

He now hopes to gain more experience, expand his technical knowledge and continue progressing within the engineering department. 

Ethan is also looking forward to growing withinthe company and continuing to build on the skills he has developed during his apprenticeship.

Hiring our first apprentice in January 2008, we have developed significantly, launching over 20 apprenticeship schemes across a variety of roles, including Sales, Marketing, Admin, Accounts, Service and Engineering. We’re proud to continue expanding our apprentice schemes and providing hands-on experience to young people looking to advance their careers.
